ประเภทของข้อมูลที่สามารถค้นหาได้บนอินเทอร์เน็ต

ข้อมูลที่อยู่บนอินเทอร์เน็ตมีมากมายหลายประเภท มีลักษณะเป็นมัลติมีเดีย คือ การนำองค์ประกอบของสื่อหลาย ๆ สื่อหลาย ๆ ชนิด (Text, Image, Animation, Sound, Video) นำมาผสมผสานรวมเข้าด้วยกันเพื่อสื่อความหมายกับผู้ใช้ให้บรรลุวัตถุประสงค์ตามการใช้งาน ซื่งองค์ประกอบของมัลติมีเดียประกอบไปด้วย

  • ข้อความ (text)
  • ภาพนิ่ง (image) ภาพที่ไม่มีการเคลื่อนไหว เช่น ภาพถ่าย ภาพวาด ภาพลายเส้น ให้ผลการับรู้และมองเห็นได้ดีกว่า ถ่ายทอดความรู้สึกได้ดีกว่าข้อความสื่อความหมายได้กับทุกชนชาติ
  • ภาพเคลื่อนไหว (animation) ภาพกราฟิกที่มีการเคลื่อนไหวหรือเคลื่อนที่ตามขั้นตอนลักษณะการเคลื่อนไหวจะปรากฏแบบต่อเนื่อง ช่วยสร้างจิตนาการ ช่วยให้เกิดแรงจูงใจจากผู้ใช้หรือผู้ชม การสร้างจะใช้โปรแกรมเฉพาะทาง
  • เสียง (sound) จัดเก็บในรูปแบบดิจิตอลสามารถเล่นกลับไปกลับมาได้ ฟังซ้ำ ๆ กันได้หลาย ๆครั้งต้องใช้โปรแกรมทางด้านออกแบบเสียงสำหรับงานเฉพาะด้าน เพิ่มความสมบูรณ์แบบ ช่วยสร้างความน่าสนใจติดตามมีอิทธิพลมากว่าข้อความกับภาพนิ่ง
  • ภาพวิดีโอ (video) เป็นส่วนประกอบที่สำคัญเป็นอย่างมากมีหลายสื่อผสม ผสมในตัว สิ้นเปลืองทรัพยากรระบบเช่น หน่วยความจำการนำเสนอใช้เวลาที่เกิดขึ้นจริง (Real time) ทำให้ต้องใช้ภาพประกอบจำนวนไม่น้อยกว่า 30 ภาพ/วินาที (Frame/Second) ต้องใช้วิธีการบีบอัดสัญญาณมาก่อนนำเสนอ
