Creative Commons is the organization behind the CC licenses, which power popular Open Access platforms like Wikipedia.
 
 
 
CC licenses are essential to preserving our global commons. In the last 20 years, we've created the legal and technological infrastracture to safeguard access to open information and materials for all, not only those with privilege.
 
 
 
However, we know this is only the beginning. This past year, we launched Open Culture, Open Climate, and Open Journalism programs, and continue to expand our longer-term efforts in Open Education.
 
 
 
CC believes that opening up knowledge is key to solving the world's most pressing challenges.
 
 
 
We need CC licenses to address timely social issues like the preservation of cultural heritage and responsible and ethical stewardship of Indigenous artifacts and images, Climate Change, global educational inequities, and challenges faced by modern journalists, including misinformation, work-halting financial constraints, and threats to digital and physical safety.
