1. ปริมาณข้อมูลจะเพิ่มขึ้นแบบทวีคูณ อย่างรวดเร็ว ขนาดของข้อมูลจะเพิ่มขึ้นในเชิง exponential เมื่อเทียบกับเวลา ข้อมูลเดิมก็จะต้องมีการเก็บรักษาเป็นระยะเวลานาน

3. การเพิ่มขึ้นของปริมาณข้อมูลภายนอกองค์กร (External data)จะขึ้นอยู่กับแนวทางที่ได้ตัดสินใจของ องค์กรนั้น ๆ
4. ความปลอดภัยของข้อมูล คุณภาพ และ ความสมบูรณ์ (integrity) เป็นสิ่งที่จำเป็นอย่างยิ่ง เป็นตัววิกฤต และเกิดอันตรายได้ง่าย
5. การคัดเลือกเครื่องมือในการจัดการข้อมูลเป็นปัญหาหลักเพราะมีให้เลือกจำนวนมาก
6. ข้อมูลที่ถูกสร้างขึ้นและถูกนำมาใช้ในเชิง offline โดยไม่มีการตรวจสอบการควบคุมคุณภาพ จะทำให้เกิดคำถามเกี่ยวกับความถุกต้องของข้อมูล
7. ข้อมูลที่อยู่ทั่วองค์กรมักมีการเก็บไว้ซ้ำซ้อนและล้าสมัย ทำให้เกิดปัญหาตามมาในการดูแลรักษา
